Sarbanes-Oxley Reporting Standards

Only a SAS 70 Type II report satisfies the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, which mandates that auditors of all publicly traded companies generate an opinion on internal controls for financial reporting.

Difference Between SAS 70 Type I and II

SAS 70 Type II reports include all of the information contained in a Type I report. In addition, independent auditors perform extensive testing conducted over a defined period of time (typically annually) of the controls and procedures indicated in the Type I report to determine how effectively the current controls meet the control objectives, It also includes the auditor's opinion on whether the specific controls were operating effectively during the period under review.
